Making it Real: How the Event: Invention of Perspective Turned Pictures into Windows

A lecture for anyone curious about how artists do what they do – turning a flat canvas into a “window” into illusionistic space.

In conjunction with the exhibit Through Windows and Doors, art expert Gary Faigin will provide an insightful and entertaining account of the dramatic history of perspective, one of the most important turning points in all of Western art.

Starting with a simple demonstration using pencil and paper followed by a slideshow, Faigin will show how the surprisingly simple ideas behind linear perspective were exploited by artists from Leonardo da Vinci to Edward Hopper, to create images of unsurpassed realism and effectiveness.

Doors will open at 6PM and the talk will begin at 7PM.
The talk will take place at Graphite Arts Center, 202 Main Steet, Edmonds on Tuesday, October 29.

Make the most of your evening with us! The exhibit ‘Through Windows and Doors‘ will be open for viewing in The Gallery at Graphite.  In addition, the pop-up exhibit ‘Tombstone‘ will be on display in the Graphite library area.  For those who wish, beverages may be purchased at Charcoal Restaurant and brought into Graphite to enjoy during the talk.
